Atma Darshan Yogashram: A Haven for Holistic Yoga Exploration

Nestled amidst the serene surroundings of Bangalore, Atma Darshan Yogashram stands as a testament to Swami Satyananda Saraswati’s vision of creating a spiritual community. Established as a non-profit organization, the ashram strives to foster harmony and understanding, providing a space where individuals can live and work towards the collective well-being of all.

Decades before Bangalore embraced the dual identity of a technological hub and a yoga haven, Atma Darshan Yogashram was born. In the seventies, Swami Satyananda identified the burgeoning interest in yoga across diverse fields, from medicine to psychology, alternative healing, and among the people of Bangalore. This led to the inception of the ashram, putting Bangalore on the global map of yoga.

In 1982, during a Yoga Convention in the city, Swami Satyananda officially named the ashram ‘Atma Darshan,’ signifying self-realization and introspection.

Satyananda Yoga Tradition:

Rooted in timeless traditions, Atma Darshan Yogashram follows the Satyananda Yoga tradition, which encompasses the original teachings of ancient seers and yogis. Swami Satyananda, the founder of the Bihar School of Yoga, adapted these teachings to suit modern living, crafting a holistic system that integrates Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Kriya Yoga, and Tantra.

Yoga, in this tradition, is not merely a physical practice; it’s a way of life that addresses the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions of individuals. The practices include asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha, shatkarma, mantra, japa, ajapa japa, yama-niyama, pratyahara, and dharana, fostering a comprehensive understanding of life.
