Experience Holistic Development with Yoga Leaf

Laura (LJ) established Yoga Leaf in 2013, offering Astanga, Vinyasa, and Gentle Hatha yoga classes at The Halls on Henderson St, a local community venue; originally from the South of England, she first discovered yoga in 1999 while living in Byron Bay, Australia. Initially a reluctant student, LJ had struggled with a variety of mental and physical health conditions throughout her life. Although uncertain about her future, she wanted to travel and experience other cultures.

Seeking a holistic approach to healing, LJ discovered the transformative power of yoga and its profound impact on physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. This experience inspired her to overcome her doubts and pursue teaching, knowing yoga had the potential to enrich and transform lives. Upon returning to London, LJ continued her Astanga studies. She also had the privilege of studying under several teachers in India, including the renowned Sri Pattabhi Jois. LJ returned to Yoga Arts in Australia to qualify as a yoga teacher in 2004.

On Wednesdays, Yoga Leaf offers a variety of classes suitable for different needs. From 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM, the Astanga Yoga for Beginners class is a led session ideal for newcomers who wish to take it gently. The class includes a selection of the Astanga Primary Series postures, along with pranayama (breathing), sun salutations, standing and seated postures, finishing postures, and relaxation. It’s an energetic class designed to increase strength and flexibility while calming the mind. Alternatively, participants can join the Self Practice Mysore Style Astanga Yoga if they are familiar with it.

From 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, LJ leads a Gentle Yoga with Yoga Nidra class, accessible to all ages and abilities. This class combines gentle yoga stretches with Yoga Nidra, a deeply relaxing guided meditation. Emphasizing breath work, meditation, mindfulness, and fun, this class is especially beneficial for those who may be less fit, dealing with mental health issues, recovering from addictions, suffering from PTSD, older adults, or women going through menopause.

On Thursdays, Yoga Leaf teaches Vinyasa Yoga from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. This vibrant, energetic class is loosely based on the Astanga Yoga Primary Series but offers a softer, more playful approach with less structure. It includes pranayama, sun salutations, standing and seated postures, and meditation or guided relaxation time. This class suits mixed abilities, offering a down-to-earth and energizing experience.

Yoga Leaf provides accessible, affordable, and down-to-earth yoga classes open to all. Join today!
