GSS Yoga: Preserving the Authentic Ashtanga Legacy in Mysuru
Since its inception in 2011, GSS Yoga (GSS Yogic Research Foundation) has established itself as one of Mysuru’s most reputable centres for spiritual and physical transformation. The institute is dedicated to the practice and propagation of the world-renowned “Mysore Style” of yoga, also known as Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. By simplifying scientific knowledge that traces its roots back over 5,000 years to the Indus Valley Civilization, GSS Yoga makes ancient traditions accessible and achievable for the modern practitioner.
The foundation operates under a unique philosophy termed “Yoga – The GSS Way.” This holistic approach categorizes well-being into three distinct pillars: physical health through asanas and pranayama, mental stability through pratyahara (sense withdrawal), and spiritual growth through dhyana (meditation). To ensure a personalized journey, classes are classified into four levels, accommodating everyone from absolute beginners to expert practitioners.
Beyond general classes, GSS Yoga is a premier destination for Yoga Teacher Training. Their comprehensive curriculum is divided into three stages, primary, intermediate, and senior covering not only physical postures but also Ayurveda, anatomy, and deep-seated yogic philosophy. This rigorous training aims to develop mentors and researchers who can continue the lineage of Sage Patanjali and the teachings popularized by Sri Krishna Pattabhi Jois ji.
Under the leadership of founder Srihari Dwarkanath ji (fondly known as Yogatma Srihari), the institute bridges the gap between wellness and social service. GSS Yoga utilizes an extensive network of volunteers to conduct community events focused on humanitarianism and moral values. By fostering a “disease-free and corruption-free” society, the foundation empowers individuals to lead energetic lives rooted in traditional wisdom and inner strength.
