Today we visited the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), the only national institute of yoga, and a place in the heart of India’s capital where you can get a very complete postgraduate degree in yoga studies.

Before the asana class started, we could see and learn how proper nose and stomach cleaning are performed. A day starts with a clean body, also from inside! The asana class was gender separated, followed by a common chanting class.

After a short break the students joined a 2-hour philosophy class, often conducted by famous outside teachers such as B.K.S. Iyengar or Swami Veda. The students can choose between a class in English or in Hindi. As all the students are to become yoga teachers, their daily schedule finishes with a training on teaching.

Then, we met the center director, Dr. Basavaraddi, we visited the yoga museum and heard about the various programmes of the institute, which are also accessible to foreigners – at that moment we were just wondering where the foreigners are…

We guess foreigners don’t know about the wonderful, high quality and cheap options inside this yoga university.
