International Yoga Day has always felt special to me, but this year felt different.

For me, yoga and sound healing have never been just practices. They have always been a way of creating spaces where people can be themselves, reconnect with themselves, and feel completely at home within their own presence. It is also a space where I feel deeply connected with the participants and where I can gently support them through moments of uneasiness and help them settle into themselves.

One moment that will stay with me for a long time came at the very end of the session. As people slowly began to leave, one participant smiled and said, “I feel like I just touched heaven and came back. It became one of those experiences that leaves a quiet imprint, not because of the venue or the occasion, but because of what was felt, shared, and experienced together in that space.

Having lived in Mumbai for the last ten years, Taj has always held a special place in my heart. It is a place I have admired for a long time, and somewhere along the way, I often imagined what it would feel like to share my practice there one day. I never consciously worked towards making it happen, but whenever I pictured meaningful spaces to hold wellness experiences, Taj always found its way into that vision.

As I walked into the room, I could immediately sense a warm and welcoming energy. Many participants were experiencing sound meditation for the first time, and there was a quiet curiosity in the room. Watching that openness made me even more excited to share this practice with them.

And then, as the session began, something shifted within me.

For those ninety minutes, I stopped thinking about everything waiting for me outside the room. The constant movement of everyday life softened into the background. Somewhere along the way, I stopped feeling like a facilitator and simply became part of the experience unfolding in the room. There was only sound, breath, stillness, and the quiet energy we were creating together.

As the sounds and vibrations moved through the space, I could feel the room gently soften around me. The energy in the room seemed to settle with each passing moment, as though everyone was gradually arriving at the stillness. Breaths slowed, shoulders loosened, and a quiet sense of peace began to settle in the room, carried by the sound, the vibration, and the shared stillness of everyone being fully present.

One thing I continue to realise through experiences like these is that sound healing never moves in just one direction. While participants come seeking rest, release, or stillness, I often leave receiving something equally meaningful. Every session reconnects me with myself in some way.

When I walked out of Taj that day, I realised I was carrying home much more than the memory of conducting a session in a place I had imagined for years. I carried home gratitude for people trusting themselves enough to try something unfamiliar, for the space we created together, and for the reminder that moments of genuine connection are often simpler and quieter than we expect.

This International Yoga Day was not just an opportunity to facilitate a sound healing session.
